A Tip of the Cap and a Book Recommendation

Hello Readers!

Apologies for being away the last two weeks. You missed us, right?

RIGHT?!

You missed us, right, reindeer?

It's summer and things are slow, including us. We've slowed down a tick after a wild beginning to the year, with the rush to finish our latest novel, which you know all about. Such is the rhythm of creation.

But we did want to use this blog as an opportunity to shout out a wonderful author who helped us enormously with advice and feedback on our previous novel, 'Ascension'. He's got a new book out that y'all should check out when you can.

If you're not familiar with J.D. Barker, now's the time to get familiar. He burst onto the scene in 2014 with his debut novel, 'Forsaken'. This novel was so good that Stephen King gave Barker permission to use his character Leland Gaunt (the shop manager from 'Needful Things') in it. Can you imagine sending Mr. King your unpublished debut novel hoping he'll let you use one of his iconic characters? How cool is that? And King said, 'yes'! Barker's indie-published debut rocketed up to #2 on Audible and was nominated for a Bram Stoker award (given to the best debut novel).

But that's not all. After reading 'Forsaken', Bram Stoker's family reached out to him and asked if he would co-write a 'Dracula' prequel using private notes and journals that had never been shared! So, first he gets the blessing of Mr. King to use Leland Gaunt, and then Bram Stoker's fam comes calling. My goodness.

And so a new prince of horror was born.

He's not scary, just the books.

Why are we telling you all this? Because our friend Mr. Barker recently published his latest novel, and if you need a thriller in your life, you ought to check out 'Behind a Closed Door'. A dark and sexy tale about a couple who get into the newest app craze but are led down a path of violence and seduction that gets more and more extreme, 'Behind a Closed Door' is '50 Shades of Grey' and 'The Game' mixed into a new and powerful suspense piece that you won't be able to put down.

We couldn't be happier for J.D. on all his success, and we are forever grateful for his help on our space opera novel 'Ascension'. You can visit his website here if you want to learn more about him.

That's all for now, gang.

Until next time, stay cool out there!
