April cold with dripping rainWillows and lilacs brings again,The whistle of returning birds,And trumpet-lowing of the herds.-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Hello Readers!
We're in the middle of a super busy April. Between the book launch and getting ready for the LA Times Festival of Books, we've got our hands full.
Early reviews of the book have been positive so far, which we are grateful for! If any big reviews come out, we'll be sure and share.
Did you know April got its name from the Latin word aperio, which means 'to open' (as in a budding plant)? Fitting its name comes from Latin because the founding of Rome took place in April. (We've got tons of fun facts for ya!)
This is when spring should spring, and here in SoCal, we've gotten lots of April showers, which means the May flowers should be outstanding.
These are flowers. |
Still to come this month is Passover, Earth Day, Arbor Day, and National Sense of Smell Day (?!). And of course we're only nine days away from the festival of books, which is a must-see experience if you happen to be in SoCal. It's free, and there's something for everyone. You can find us in the gold zone at booth #144. We'll be reminding everyone next week, but pencil it in if you're nearby. There will be celebrities, music, kid's events, the whole shebang.
Looking ahead, after the festival we'll take some time to enjoy the book release but then it's back to work. We want to continue the Justin Pierce stories, so we're going to make 'An Educated Death' the first in a series of mystery novels. We also will continue to work on getting audiobook versions of our previous novels released.
Since April is also National Poetry Month, and David loves poetry, we'll leave you how we started, with a gorgeous poem. This one's by Mary Oliver.
Don't Hesitate
If you suddenly and unexpectedly feel joy,
don't hesitate. Give in to it. There are plenty
of lives and whole towns destroyed or about
to be. We are not wise. And not very often
kind. And much can never be redeemed.
Still, life has some possibility left. Perhaps this
is its way of fighting back, that sometimes
something happens better than all the riches
or power in the world. It could be anything,
but very likely you'll notice it in the instant
when love begins. Anyway, that's often the case.
Anyway, whatever it is, don't be afraid
of its plenty. Joy is not made to be a crumb.
That's all for now.
Until next time,
